At the height of brutalism, work was completed on the Albert Sloman Library. A masterstroke of optimism; concrete and light, horizontal, stretched forms between landscapes and blue-sky silhouettes. The library stood true as an emblem of socialist futurism, and as a text a manifesto, an embodiment of futurist principles, of anarchy, modernism, and youth.
Between the library and the lakeside, the Silberrad Student Centre extends the horizontal plane to the water’s edge. Acknowledged with architectural prestige, the site provides a destination of confidence and respect.
Textures render forms from the light, concrete casting a uniform warmth. Rising through the floors the central staircase offers an energy to the architecture’s subtle calm.
